Stewart Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy PLLC is an outpatient Occupational therapy practice specializing in rehabilitation of the HAND, ARM and SHOULDER. All client will be treated by Anne Stewart, a Licensed Occupational Therapist for 30 years and a Certified Hand Therapist for 25 years. Anne Stewart's extensive experience includes working with the foremost Hand and Orthopedic surgeons in Fairfield, New Haven and Hartford Counties. Anne received her undergraduate education for Occupational Therapy at the University of New Hampshire. She did her internships in Psychiatry at the Institute of Living in Hartford, CT; Physical Disabilities at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine; and Hand Specialty with Seacoast Hand Rehabilitation in Dover, NH. Anne has worked in CT since 1988 and has worked with and treated numerous clients achieving ultimate functioning for all. Anne has lectured at Hand Conferences and was asked to teach a specialty class at Quinnipiac College for a semester. Anne has also published many articles related to hand injuries for the community in which she has worked. Anne has acted as a mentor for many OT students during internships as well as for her colleagues. Anne works closely with all providers to provide a team approach for all clients and their care.
Why a Certified Hand Therapist?
A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an occupational therapist or physical therapist who has a minimum of three years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. In addition, the Certified Hand Therapist has successfully passed a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation. Because of changes in the profession, every CHT is required to demonstrate continued professional development and competency by recertifying every five years. There are only 6,044 Certified Hand therapists in the United states and 85% Are Occupational Therapists.
